The Healthcare of Foundation of New Jersey The mission of The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey (formerly known as the NBI Healthcare Foundation) is to alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable members of our community. Our goal is to identify and strengthen existing healthcare programs and to seed innovative projects that address unmet healthcare needs. Through the funding of strategic and transformational proposals, we hope to reach out and positively impact the underserved communities in our area. In 1901, with the inauguration of the Newark Beth Israel Hospital, the Jewish community of Newark, New Jersey established a strong tradition of delivering the highest standards of medical care. The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, a private grantmaking institution founded in 1996, is firmly rooted in this great heritage. The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey is particularly grateful to the generations of caring Jewish women and men who generously created and supported a lasting legacy of healthcare in Newark and Essex County. It is the hope of The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey to follow in the footsteps of those philanthropic individuals who embodied the ideals of tzedakah (social justice) and tikkun olum (repairing the world). The Board of Trustees of The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey has identified four priority giving areas for grant support: Programs that address the healthcare needs of the vulnerable children and families of Newark, especially Newark's South Ward Programs that address the healthcare needs of the vulnerable individuals of the MetroWest Jewish community of Northern New Jersey Proposals related to medical education and humanism in medicine Clinical medical research, especially at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center
